During the Chicago International Auto Show, Volkswagen made several announcements regarding its future projects in North America. Thus, we learned that there will be no pickup truck in our market, contrary to what the rumor suggested. This was confirmed by Pablo Di Si, the president of the brand in North America.
It's a shame since the Volkswagen Atlas is experiencing a lot of success on the other side of the Atlantic. With midsize trucks continuing to gain popularity on the new continent, it was certain that Volkswagen would proceed with the project. The German manufacturer had shown particular optimism about this opportunity last year.
Ford and Volkswagen had also reached an agreement for the latter to use the platform and certain components of the new generation Ranger for its own pickup truck. In short, everything indicated that a Volkswagen pickup truck was on its way to North America.
A Second Option
If you want a pickup truck and you're a Volkswagen enthusiast, all is not lost, I assure you. Indeed, the German manufacturer still intends to market a 100% electric pickup truck under the Scout banner in North America.
For now, it can be said with certainty that there will be no Volkswagen pickup truck in our market. Who knows, maybe the manufacturer will change its mind in the coming years. Fortunately, the brand offers a multitude of interesting vehicles, and several unveilings are scheduled for the coming years.
